The couple was born in St. Louis but soon made the move in New York City just a few days old. In 1991, she received an art bachelor's degree from Barnard College. She worked as waitress at An American Place in New York City for the entire year. But Guarnaschelli's experience in the kitchen began before her time, as she watched her mother experiment with various recipes at home as she rewrote cookbooks. After working under Larry Forgione, she worked at several restaurants which included Guy Savoy's La Butte Chaillot in New York France Los Angeles. She eventually ended up becoming the executive chef at Butter. Guarnaschelli took part in 2007's Farmers Market Battle on Food Network's Iron Chef America, where she had to face Cat Cora. In the years since, she's appeared at the side as guest judges. In addition, she competed at The Next Iron Chef Season Four in 2011, where she placed third. She also competed with an episode of the Food Network Challenge Ultimate Thanksgiving Feast episode and was eliminated in the event. She was appointed sous-chef of Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian after the fourth season of The Next Iron Chef. In 2008, she was host of the Food Network's The Cooking Loft with Alex Guarnaschelli who teaches the students in a small class teaching them how to reimagine classic meals.
